Gregory Corso is an icon of the beat (nik) movement, having found his direction and honed his style in the early/mid 50's after stints in prison -- and amidst his friends Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, and Jack Kerouac. Corso is widely considered to be a part of that influential inner-circle of creative influences.
His first published work "Gasoline" was released with and around the time of Ginsbergs "HOWL" and was also a key early release by Ferlinghetti's City Lights Publishing.
In the photo at right, Corso (left) is photographed with his friend and fellow poet, Allen Ginsberg.
Enjoy this popular work by Corso. You should also probably purchase "Gasoline" -- good stuff.
Destiny
by Gregory Corso
They deliver the edicts of God
without delay
And are exempt from apprehension
from detention
And with their God-given
Petasus, Caduceus, and Talaria
ferry like bolts of lightning
unhindered between the tribunals
of Space & Time
The Messenger-Spirit
in human flesh
is assigned a dependable,
self-reliant, versatile,
thoroughly poet existence
upon its sojourn in life
It does not knock
or ring the bell
or telephone
When the Messenger-Spirit
comes to your door
though locked
It'll enter like an electric midwife
and deliver the message
There is no tell
throughout the ages
that a Messenger-Spirit
ever stumbled into darkness
